San Antonio Zoo is thrilled to announce Dog Day, an extraordinary event where you and your furry companions can embark on a magical adventure together. Mark your calendars for Monday, August 26th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a day filled with excitement!
Dog Day provides a unique opportunity for dog lovers to explore the wonders of the animal kingdom alongside their beloved pets. Dogs will be treated to captivating sights, sounds, and scents, creating a truly delightful experience. As they explore, they’ll also play a vital role in enriching the lives of the zoo’s animal residents, adding an extra touch of excitement and curiosity to the atmosphere.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees, there are a few guidelines to follow. Dogs must have up-to-date rabies vaccinations and be kept on a non-retractable leash no longer than 6 feet. Each dog must be accompanied by a designated adult, and one dog ticket ($27.99) must be purchased per adult ticket or Membership. Dog Day will be limited to the first 1,000 dogs. Please note that certain areas such as Discovery PLAYce, Riverbank, Education Center, ,indoor restaurants, and animal encounters are excluded.
CAN I BRING MORE THAN ONE DOG TO THE EVENT?
You may bring one dog per 18+ person from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on August, 26th 2024. To participate, guests must purchase a $27.99 Dog Day Ticket for each dog, in addition to either purchasing zoo admission or presenting their Membership for entry.
IS THERE AN AGE REQUIREMENT FOR HANDLERS?
Handlers should be over the age of 18 and not responsible for managing children.
ARE THERE ANY HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR DOGS ATTENDING THE EVENT?
Yes, dogs attending the zoo should receive regular veterinary care and vaccinations. Dogs must be vaccinated against Rabies, heartworm prevention, Canine Distemper Virus, and Canine Parvovirus, and you will need to provide proof of vaccination.
WHAT SHOULD MY DOG WEAR AND CARRY FOR IDENTIFICATION?
We require that all dogs arrive at the zoo with a well-fitting collar or harness.
ARE RETRACTABLE LEASHES ALLOWED?
Please use non-retractable leashes that are no longer than 6 feet.
ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON THE TYPES OF DOGS THAT CAN ATTEND?
Puppies under 4 months, sick dogs, dogs with active injuries (e.g., stitches, bandages), and female dogs in heat are not suitable for the event. During your visit, dogs that are not under the owner’s control, excessive barking or are displaying adverse reactions to animals may be asked to leave the zoo without a refund.
DO DOGS NEED TO BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES?
Yes, dogs are required to be on a leash at all times during the event. Leashes should be no longer than 6 feet and non-retractable. Leashes should be attached at all times, even if the dog is in a carrier or stroller.
DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE TICKET FOR MY DOG?
Yes, to participate, guests must purchase a $27.99 Dog Day Ticket for each dog, in addition to either purchasing zoo admission or presenting their Membership for entry.
CAN I ACCESS ALL AREAS OF THE ZOO WITH MY DOG?
While most zoo areas are accessible to guests with dogs, aviaries, indoor restaurants and animal encounters are excluded.
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR MY DOG'S BEHAVIOR DURING THE EVENT?
Dogs should remain under their human’s control and exhibit well-behaved and non-aggressive behavior. Excessive agitation of animal residents at the zoo or guests because of barking or other behavior may lead to the party being asked to leave the zoo without a refund.
CAN I BRING OTHER PETS BESIDES DOGS?
This opportunity is available for dogs only; unfortunately, no other pets are allowed.
CAN I TAKE MY DOG INSIDE RESTAURANTS AT THE ZOO?
Dogs are not allowed inside indoor restaurants. Outdoor pet friendly eating areas, like Longnecks Bar & Grill will be activated throughout the zoo.

WILL WATER AND RELIEF BAGS BE PROVIDED?
Guests are encouraged to bring their own water bowls and relief bags. Water will be available at zoo snack stands.
