Home School Family Safari
Join other home school families for an interactive classroom program and mini zoo safari adventure! These hour-long, themed, and engaging programs support TEKS initiatives through lessons and activities, biofacts, animal ambassadors and topic-related zoo exploration.
Home School Family Safari educational experiences are geared towards learners 6-10 years and are designed to enhance learning the following:
Science TEKS (2021): 1.12.B, 1.13.A, 2.12.A, 2.12.B, 2.13.B, 3.12.A. 3.12.B, 3.13.A, 4.12.B, 5.12.B, 5.12.C, 5.13.A
Cost: $14 per person; zoo admission included
- Minors must be accompanied by a paying adult
- Programming geared towards ages 6-10 yrs

August – Scaly, Slimy, Spectacular
Embark on a thrilling expedition to uncover the secrets of the scaley and slimy! Discover the amazing adaptations that make reptiles and amphibians some of the most unique creatures on Earth and learn what the zoo is doing to save them.
September – Curious Cats and Canines
Cats and Dogs may be familiar pets in your home, but have you ever met their wilder cousins? Learners will discover the difference between domestic pets, wild animals, and what we can do to secure a future for wild cats and wild dogs.
October – Dead and … Delicious? – The World of Decomposers
Decomposers have a gross but important job to do! Dive into the world of decomposers as learners meet some of the planet’s clean-up crew and discover why it is so important to clean up after ourselves.
November – Grazing with Giants
Grazers are found across the world and are often animals that walk on hooves! Learners will discover the world of even hoofed mammals, from giant giraffes to tiny antelopes, and odd hoofed mammals, like zebras and rhinos. No matter where they are, hoofed mammals are vital keystones to healthy habitats.
December – Wonders of Flight
Birds, bats, beetles, and butterflies. What do they have in common? They’re some of the few animals capable of flight! Learners will discover surprising similarities and differences between how different animals take to the skies.
January – Monkey Business
A tale of primates with tails and primates without, discover what makes a primate. Learners will discover giant gorillas, leaping lemurs, tiny tamarins, and how we can protect them and the rainforests they depend on.
February – So you want to be a Zookeeper?
What does a day in the life of a zookeeper look like? Learn what it takes to care for amazing animals, prepare their meals, and help keep them healthy and happy. Get the inside scoop on what it takes to be a zookeeper and find out how this exciting career makes an impact on wildlife conservation.
March – Amazing Asia
Embark on a captivating journey through Asia’s diverse ecosystems! Meet the incredible animals that inhabit this vast continent, from the foothills of the Himalayas to tropical islands. Discover the secrets of majestic tigers, leaping langurs, and the largest lizard on earth!
April – Plentiful Pollinators
One out of every three bites of food you eat comes from plants that need pollinators! Learners will explore the animals that help plants create the fruits we love to eat and how we can help them.
May – Beneath the Waves
Dive into the incredible world beneath the waves as we explore coral reefs, mangroves, the deep sea, and more! Meet the animals that call these underwater habitats home and learn what makes our oceans so important.
