Spekboom Lodge, San Antonio Zoo’s new overnight suite where you can sleep alongside giraffes, zebras, ostriches and other African species is now open for booking! This extraordinary new experience is set within the heart of the newly renovated Naylor Savanna. Be among the first to embrace this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the zoo’s African savanna.
Set within the vibrant Naylor Savanna, Spekboom Lodge provides a private escape for up to four guests, perfect for families or small groups. The suite boasts a primary bedroom with king bed, a living area, two twin beds, an outdoor patio, and a well-equipped kitchenette. Guests can relish the tranquil savanna views while enjoying morning coffee on the patio and wind down with a smart TV and board games after a day of exploration.
Guests of Spekboom Lodge enjoy exclusive zoo access, allowing exploration up to two hours after closing and an hour before opening, ensuring a peaceful and private experience. The stay includes complimentary access to zoo attractions like the carousel and scenic train rides. Additionally, guests will have free access to engaging animal encounters, including the John & Greli Less Butterfly Rainforest, Kangaroo Krossing, Giraffe Feeding, and Lory Landing. A highlight of the visit is a behind-the-scenes Giraffe Barn Tour, offering an exclusive look at the state-of-the-art facility designed to support the future expansion of the zoo’s giraffe herd.

In addition to the luxurious Spekboom Lodge, San Antonio Zoo offers a variety of overnight experiences to suit diverse preferences and budgets, highlighting the zoo’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. Options include Zoo Lights Overnights, available on Fridays and Saturdays from November 16 through December for as low as $65 per person, and Roars & Snores, held Fridays and Saturdays from January to October for as low as $65 per person, with a $15 upgrade to sleep in Africa Live! Staying at the Spekboom Lodge was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. The accommodations were beautiful and the views overlooking Naylor Savanna are magical. The staff taking care of us during our stay were extremely responsive. Every single member of the zoo staff we talked with were kind and enthusiastic. Wandering the zoo during the extended hours was one of the best parts of our stay. The animals were active and it is clear just how much love and care goes into making sure they are happy. We were able to meet their newest giraffe, Waffles, during our barn tour and never felt rushed for time. We were also able to catch sight of the hyenas being active at night, which was amazing! This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and we feel so lucky to have been able to stay at the Lodge. We would highly recommend this experience for anyone and hope to come back for another stay some day!
