Behind-the-Scenes: Giant Anteater

Come nose to nose with one of San Antonio Zoo’s most fascinating residents during this exclusive 30-minute behind-the-scenes experience!
You’ll have the opportunity to feed a giant anteater and see its incredible adaptations up close, including a tongue that can extend nearly two feet to reach deep into small crevices for food. Giant anteaters can consume thousands of ants and termites each day and rely on their exceptional sense of smell to locate their next meal.
It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience this remarkable species in a whole new way and create a memory you won’t soon forget.

Please arrive at the Wild Encounters Pavilion 30 minutes prior to your experience to check in.
There is a maximum capacity of 4 guests per experience. Space is limited, so book early!
Available Sundays at 11:00 a.m., beginning September 6, 2026.
Admission to San Antonio Zoo is separate and required for entry.

Prepare for your Adventure
The Giant Anteater Behind-the-Scenes experience is approximately 30 minutes.
Admission to San Antonio Zoo is separate from the Behind-the-Scenes experience and required for entry.
- Arrive at the Wild Encounters Pavillion (across from the Carousel) 30 minutes before your scheduled experience.
- Guests arriving 15 minutes or later after the start of the experience will not be admitted.
- Each Behind-the-Scenes: Giant Anteater experience is limited to 4 participants per group.
- Children 15 years and younger must be accompanied by a paying adult.
- Closed-toe shoes are required for safety purposes.
- No service animals are allowed behind the scenes.
- Experiences may be canceled or modified due to inclement weather, animal health, or safety concerns.
- Program times, prices, components, and animal participation are subject to change.
