ABOUT OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Stephanie Fennessy
Stephanie Fennessy is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Giraffe
Conservation Foundation, the only organization in the world that concentrates solely
on the conservation and management of giraffe in the wild throughout Africa. In her
role, Steph handles all of GCF’s day-to-day business, including liaison with
conservation partners throughout the world and fundraising. With an MSc in
Environmental Engineering, she is a skilled and experienced environmental
manager who has successfully worked in diverse working cultures and
multidisciplinary teams within the private, Government and NGO sector in Africa,
Australia and Europe. Steph’s expertise is in project management and ranges from
community-based natural resource management to technical sustainability
solutions. Steph fell in love with Africa and in particular with Namibia’s vast
desertscapes, its people and wildlife during the research for her MSc thesis. With a
passion for nature and conservation, she continues to be hands-on involved in a
wide range of giraffe projects across Africa and particularly enjoys spending time in
the field. Steph is a member of the IUCN SSC Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group and
when asked how she got involved in giraffe conservation, she will probably tell you
that she ‘married into it’. Together with her husband Julian, who is considered the
world’s most renown authority on giraffe in the wild, and two teenage children,
Steph lives in Windhoek, Namibia, and ensures that the Giraffe Conservation
Foundation remains a loud voice for giraffe.
