San Antonio Zoo is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to facilitate the new Touch Tank Experience at the Brewer Oceanic Conservation Lab!
As a Touch Tank Volunteer, you’ll be on the front lines of guest engagement, helping visitors of all ages connect with amazing marine animals while inspiring conservation action. If you love animals, enjoy meeting people, and have a passion for wildlife, this is a unique opportunity to make a splash!
What you’ll do:
- Create unforgettable experiences through storytelling and hands-on experiences
- Share fascinating animal facts and conservation messages
- Setup guests for success by reiterating expectations
- Monitor wellbeing of animals
- sea stars, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, slipper lobsters, etc.
What we’re looking for:
- 18yrs+
- Friendly, energetic communicators comfortable speaking with guests of all ages
- Team players who stay calm under pressure
- Passion for wildlife and conservation
Commitment:
- Minimum of one 3-hour shift every week
- Shift day/time consistency requested, but not required
- Multiple shifts per week and extended shifts (up to 5 hours) available
- Minimum three-month commitment: summer, seasonal and year-round opportunities available
- Onsite training provided and required
- Volunteer appreciation determined by commitment and service
Things to Know
- This is a highly interactive, guest-facing role that involves continuous conversations with visitors of all ages.
- Touch Tank shifts are spent standing and frequently require reaching and bending.
- Hands-on interactions with animals and habitats require regular contact with water and shellfish.
- The Touch Tank area is indoors & climate-controlled but is warm and humid.
