San Antonio Zoo Parking Garage Wins Award 2021 Best Parking Structure Over 500 Spaces

Towering over Highway 281 is the award-winning San Antonio Zoo animal-themed parking garage now ranking Best Parking Structure Over 500 Spaces by the Precast Concrete Manufacturers Association (PCMA). The zoo parking garage features a natural appearance with three Reticulated giraffes, four Monarch butterflies, and a Sumatran tiger with abundant greenery around the structure. These features come to life with nighttime lighting and ambiance intended to inspire and delight, just like San Antonio Zoo has done for the past 108 years.

“The San Antonio Zoo parking garage is a good example of precast concrete’s ability to meet unique traffic flows while incorporating aesthetic considerations and structural performance,” said Chris Lechner, Executive Director of PCMA.

Manco Structures worked closely with Alamo Architects and Guido Construction to design this two-bay, five-story, split-level precast parking garage. It includes over 165,000 square feet of parking, accommodating 600 spaces for those visiting the San Antonio Zoo, Brackenridge Park, Alamo Stadium, and other area venues. The parking structure contains over 480 precast components consisting of double tees, columns, inverted tee beams, spandrels, and wall panels. The zoo parking garage was funded as part of the voter-approved 2017 city bond and opened to animal lovers around the world in the Spring of 2020.
