Young Children

 Zoo School - A Nature Based Preschool - NOW ENROLLING FOR FALL 2015

Ages 3-5 years

Fall session 2015 - Beginning September 8, 2015
9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Tues/Thurs  $275/Members; $300/nonmembers per month
Mon/Wed/Fri  $350/Members; $375/Nonmembers per month
Five days a week  $600/Members; $625/Nonmembers per month

Bring your child to the Education Center for a nature based preschool experience unique in San Antonio! The Zoo’s teaching staff will introduce your child to plants and animals with hands-on education and time in nature. Daily activities include circle time, animal presentations, Zoo tours, outside free play, activity centers, fun games, songs and a snack! The San Antonio Zoo School - A Nature Preschool, is a fully licensed preschool program for children part time and full time for the spring semester! Attention 2 and 3 year olds!  Grab a parent or caregiver and join us for a summer camp designed just for you!  Tiny Tot camps are filled with nature exploration, opportunities, stories, songs, sensory play, and activities!  Our 4-day camps help parents and other caregivers rediscover the magic and importance of playing in nature with young children.




San Antonio Family Nature Club Camp Out

Come join other families as we explore nature with an education staff guide from the San Antonio Zoo.  Our next event will be a camp out at Helton Nature Park in Floresville.  We are partnering with the San Antonio River Authority on this camp out.  Come join the fun!

Funding for this project was awarded through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund as part of the Nature Play Begins at Your Zoo & Aquarium collaboration with AZA.  The San Antonio Zoo is proud to be a recipient of this grant for family nature play.



Family Campouts

6:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Cost per person: $45/member adult; $22/member child

Don't hesitate, this popular program fills quickly! Bring the family for a great campout experience inside the Zoo.  Complete with an open fire, sleeping outside in a tent, outdoor activities, campfire stories, animal encounters, and an evening Zoo tour. This fall join us for some Texas outdoor living fun at an earlier time of 6:00 p.m.

Please note: All early childhood programs are developed for the age range stated. Siblings under 12 months in strollers may attend at no charge but should be registered. Siblings over 12 months and extra adults need to be paid participants, as the number of participants in each program is limited. These stipulations assure proper preparation for the programs, safety of the guests and an appropriate group size for the teacher. 

Little Zootennial Buddies

Bring your littlest animal lover every month for a Zoo class to meet an animal friend, sing animal songs and read books about animals as they make new friends.  Attending all six classes is strongly recommended.

Bring your little Zoo lover in a stroller or a sling for a fun Zoo walk.  Meet at the Education Center for some brief information about our adventure, the animals we will see and to pick up a map.  With this informal program, you can walk through the Zoo at your own pace, and meet our teachers at the times and places on the map to learn about our amazing animals.  We will visit different animals each time, and most of the interpretation will be geared toward parents.

24-36 months

Calling all terrific twos!!!  Come to the Zoo and get your wiggles out!  These classes are geared just for terrific twos so they can concentrate on movement, music, animal pretend play, and sensory experiences.  You will also meet an animal ambassador and take a "two sized" Zoo tour.

Sensory Play is such an integral part of childhood.  Some children have trouble processing it and others can't fet enough of it!  Come to the Zoo and join our Early Childhood instructors as they set out some great sensory experiences for you and your child to enjoy!

Come do the downward dog and then visit our wild dogs!  Our yoga teacher will practice some basic yoga moves with children and caregivers.  Then they will walk with you to meet the inspiration for our exercises.

Ever wonder how to become a COOL nature teacher/parent?  Call us with a group of 8-12 adults and children ages 3-5 and we'll design a custom class that focuses on developing skills needed to mentor eco-conscious kids. Help your children recognize their potential to take charge, problem solve and find their own interests as they observe and study nature through open-ended nature play.
