Pokemon Go 101: How to “Catch them all” at the San Antonio Zoo

Before You Arrive

  • This game has taken the world by a storm! In popular places (like the San Antonio Zoo) there is a lot of activity, and sometimes the app crashes. By updating your app it will be more secure and crash less often.
  • Make sure your battery is charged! We also recommend setting your phone to use as little battery as possible and turning on the game’s built-in power saving mode.
  • Come prepared for a day in the sun! We recommend bringing water and sunscreen – although the Pokémon you catch may be virtual, the sun outside is definitely real! No one will be impressed if you leave looking as red as a Kingler, no matter your level!

At the Park

  • Be respectful to other guests. Please do not block the view of guests trying to see our “real-life” animals – they are the main attraction!
  • On that note, don’t forget to put your phone down to enjoy some of the zoo’s more traditional wildlife. We have recently welcomed a new Asian elephant to join our beloved “Lucky”, and she would love for you to stop by and say hi!
  • The San Antonio Zoo’s regular hours are from 9:00AM-5:00PM (Members get early entry at 8:00AM). Sorry, this does not allow for our guests to catch nocturnal Pokémon within our gates.

Pokéstops and Gyms

The San Antonio Zoo offers our very own Gym, located at Lion’s Pride near the front gate. Make sure you stop at all of our Pokéstops as well – we have over a dozen scattered throughout the Zoo.

Although we are very excited about the release of Pokémon Go, the San Antonio Zoo’s top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our real-life animals and guests. We ask that you do not venture into off-limits areas to catch Pokémon. Additionally, please make sure to watch where you are, and walk, don't run to your next Pokéstop.

*The San Antonio Zoological Aquariums and Gardens did not choose or otherwise select the placement of any Pokéstops or Gyms within our park. While we are very glad to have you play during your visit it is important that you stay safe at all times. Pokéstops and Gyms located in inaccessible, off-limits or unsafe locations have been requested to be removed from the game for your safety. Do not attempt to access Pokéstops or Gyms in non-guest areas. Pokémon and Pokémon character names are trademarks of Nintendo.
